Abstract
Previously, the noticeable violence occurred between danfo drivers and the commuters but recent reports of violence confrontation between danfo drivers and LASTMA showed that the paradigm have changed from how it is used to be before. The study aimed to identify contributing factors towards danfo drivers and LASTMA violence confrontation in Lagos State Nigeria. Danfo drivers and LASTMA formed the population of the study. Simple random technique only was adopted for this work while Taro Yamane (1967) was used to determine sample size for both danfo drivers and LASTMA employees. Data was sourced primarily and online google form of questionaires was used. Descriptive statistics was used to analyse the collected data. The findings produced the MIV of 3.334 and RMI values with their respective rank. Comparing the estimated MIV of 3.334 against the six (6) identified factors contributing to violence confrontation, it was observed that arbitrary charges and undue violation charges, social factor and high fuel price and other operating costs were rated above the MIV value with RMI values of 3.559, 3.487 and 3.337 and ranked 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively. Other factors were drivers’ attitude in obeying traffic rules, too many agencies on the road performing the same function and poor sensitisation with RMI values of 3.298, 3.248 and 3.082 and ranked 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. The findings had provided useful insight into factors contributing to violence confrontation between the danfo drivers and LASTMA in Lagos State Nigeria.
