dc.descriptionThe Pontificate of Pope Francis Marked by Mercy and Synodality. A Theological Reflection. The article highlights the twelve-year pontificate of Pope Francis (2013–2025), which was characterised by the central themes of mercy and synodality. Francis, the first Jesuit and Latin American to hold the papacy, pursued a reform-oriented, merciful and dialogical leadership style based on his Ignatian spirituality and the Argentine ‘theology of the people’. The extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy (2015–2016) and the World Synod on Synodality (2021–2024) are seen as complementary expressions of a unified vision of the Church. This vision aims at a serving, participatory and dialogical Church that is oriented towards people and focuses on the principles of the Gospel.en-US
