Abstract
Description
In Memoriam William Victor Alexandru Bleiziffer (1972-2025). This article aims to highlight the laborious research and teaching activity of Father William Victor Alexandru Bleiziffer, which he carried out in his mature years when he completed his university studies in Rome and in his native country as Professor of Eastern Canon Law at the Babeș-Bolyai University, Blaj Department. Besides contributing to the consolidation of Church structures within the Major Archdiocese of Alba Iulia and Făgăraș, Bleiziffer made an essential contribution to the formulation of principles for the development of particular Law. In developing its own law, the Greek Catholic Church in Romania uses the documents of the Ecumenical Councils, Concilia et costitutiones sic dicta apostolorum, Concilia particularia, Responsa Patrum and subsidiary sources: Ius canonum Ecclesiae Romanae, Edicta imperatorum et leges civiles in materia ecclesiastica, as well as its own customs (consuetudines). The eulogies delivered at the funeral of Father Bleiziffer by the Latin Bishop of Timișoara, Monsignor József-Csaba Pál, the Greek Catholic Bishops: Virgil Bercea of Oradea, Mihai Frățilă of Bucharest, Cristian Crișan, Auxiliary Bishop of the Major Archdiocese of Alba Iulia and Făgăraș, and by the Dean of the Faculty of Theology in Cluj, Professor Dr. Cristian Barta pointed the great personality of Bleiziffer, who left a mark on the contemporary history of the Greek Catholic Church in Romania.
