Abstract

Description

Three pieces for clarinet solo by Cornel Țăranu carry the compositional impression of the ‘80s highlighting a perfect – micro and macrostructural – balance between construction and freedom. The first piece, Toccata ostinato, builds arrhythmic ostinato on a repeated sound, in alternation with a melodic “pattern” of modal-chromatic essence. The second piece, Improvisazione, was written long time before the other two and represents a median contrast, where the sonorous discourse is delivered in a quasi-improvisational development. The third piece, Cadenza, is based on a nucleous made up of (major and minor) second and augmented fourth, transposed and built on various sounds, serving to an expressivity close to that of the lament, suggestively presented by the descending glissando.
