Abstract

Description

The Human Intellect as Organ for Holiness. Bernhard Welte’s Philosophy of Religion and the Debate on the Nature of the Sacred. Bernhard Welte, a Catholic priest and German philosopher of religion, has a specific concept of the holy. His concept defies theories which are emphasizing feelings or the irrationality in the experiences of the holy (Schleiermacher – Rudolf Otto – Max Scheler). He identifies the human intellect (Vernunft) as the organ of the holy. This study is meant to unfold the whole horizon of the question of the holy in the philosophy of religion by Welte.
