Péter Vermesy (1939-1989) was one of the most progressive members of the Cluj School of composition. Although his work, either as a composer or a writer demonstrates a commitment to promote the musical mother tongue, he was also opened to the techniques and messages of the western avant-garde. The Five Sketches for Piano (1963) is one of his earliest works that experiments with elements of new music, explored later in many other compositions. We dedicate the paper to his memory on the occasion of his double anniversary.en-US
